After the shocking events of Godless Season 1, Netflix has greenlit a second season—because let’s be honest, there’s always more room for brooding cowboys, excessive shootouts, and dramatic horse-riding montages.
The Plot
Season 2 picks up five years later. Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), now a full-fledged legend of the West, has traded his gunslinging days for a peaceful life as a schoolteacher in a small, dusty town. That is, until an unexpected visitor—his long-lost twin brother, Bad Goode (also played by Jack O’Connell with a very sinister mustache)—rides into town, looking to wreak havoc and cash in on Roy’s reputation.
Meanwhile, Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery) has become the unofficial sheriff of La Belle, but running a town full of headstrong women is no easy task. She’s now up against the U.S. government, which wants to turn La Belle into a railroad hub, and a gang of outlaws called The Discount Daltons, who are trying to rob everything in sight—including people’s patience.
At the same time, Whitey Winn (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) somehow survived the events of Season 1, thanks to what doctors are calling a serious case of protagonist immunity. He’s now working as a self-proclaimed bounty hunter, though his only real bounty so far has been on a stolen goat named Betsy.
But the biggest twist? Frank Griffin’s long-lost evil twin brother, Hank Griffin (Jeff Daniels, but with a much scruffier beard), is seeking revenge for his brother’s death, and he’s bringing an army of bandits and tax collectors with him.
The Cast
- Jack O’Connell – Roy Goode / Bad Goode (because every good Western needs an evil twin trope)
- Michelle Dockery – Alice Fletcher, now carrying a bigger gun and even more sass
- Merritt Wever – Mary Agnes, still rocking those pants and looking to become the first female mayor of the West
- Thomas Brodie-Sangster – Whitey Winn, inexplicably alive, still looking 14 years old
- Jeff Daniels – Hank Griffin, the evil(er) Griffin brother
- Betsy the Goat – Herself, the real star of the show
- Special Cameo: Sam Elliott – As The Narrator, who only speaks in ominous one-liners
The Vibe
Godless: Season 2 promises even more gunfights, horse chases, and people dramatically taking off their hats. There will be a subplot where someone tries to invent the first Western burrito, and an emotional moment when Whitey sings a very sad harmonica ballad about his love for Betsy the Goat.
Expect betrayals, unexpected love triangles, and at least one five-minute-long stare-down that ends in someone sneezing awkwardly.
Netflix executives are already calling it the most unnecessarily intense Western sequel since Tombstone 2: This Time It’s Personal.
So saddle up, because the West isn’t done being wild just yet.
